League Polices & Procedures
Per a meeting held on March 22nd, 2012, the following is a summary of policies for the 2012 season:
1. Due to numbers issues-we will allow mixed age groups this season-i.e. players can play up, but cannot play down. It seems that grades 4-8 will play modified checking only this season. If a coach feels like their 4th grader cannot handle modified checking-then a conversation shall occur between coaches prior to the game. Coaches are to use their discretion and knowledge of a player as to whether they are skilled enough and can handle playing up.
2. Full checking is permitted by the rules for U-15 only, and only if there are 2 officials, one of whom has the rating beyond that of “youth” and is a “local” rated ref. For teams that are true U-15 (7th and 8th graders ONLY), full checking can be discussed if the proper officiating is present. Full checking will not be permitted even with proper officials if there are girls under the 7th grade level (or born before 9/1/98 –based on US Lacrosse guidelines for age eligibility) on the U-15 team. U-11 teams, or teams with any 3rd graders on them will not be checking at all.
3. All coaches (whether head or assistant) will be US Lacrosse members and will strive to get Level 1 Certified. To that end, all coaches this season will at least have completed the Level 1 on-line course, and taken the test accompanying it. The Positive Coaching Alliance course is strongly encouraged as well, but not mandatory yet. There is no firm timeline in place as to when full Level 1 Certification will be required by the NVGYLL.
4. All players must be US Lacrosse members-and proof of the same shall be submitted to me, along with rosters and birthdates by April 20th.
5. Game length time is running time- 2 twenty-five minute periods. NO TIME OUTS are permitted (except for injury) UNLESS both coaches agree to the same prior to the start of the game, and time will not be stopped. If T.O.'s are agreed to, they shall be 2 minutes in duration, and only 1 is permitted per game unless otherwise agreed to.
6. If your team will be shorthanded for a jamboree, the coach of the team must contact the opposing coach at least 24 hours prior to game time.
Host Site Requirements - A time keeper at each venue - if fields are at separate locations, a timekeeper must be present at each location. The timekeeper shall sound two horn blasts for a 5 minute warning until start time of the FIRST game. One horn blast shall sound for start of the game, half time, and end of the games.
